Exploring new approaches in footwear design and craftsmanship, this collection was driven by the biodegradable material Malai. The challenge was to research material combinations that would complement Malai’s unique characteristics while maintaining its compostable nature.
This project contributed to further material research on the biocomposite Malai and evolved from a pilot pair of slippers I created during my internship at Malai Biomaterials in India. Understanding the material and the technology behind it required immersing myself in its place of origin—experiencing the process firsthand to push its potential forward.
Organic is an experimental shoe collection guided by circular economy principles, including Design for Disassembly.
Main materials:
Malai for the upper, combined with 3D-printed TPU for the outsole
Secondary upper material: Piñatex
